Genuinely the best tv show i've seen in years, if this came out sooner it would've been up there with tumblr's obsessions like supernatural and sherlock but it's so painfully underratedddd i don't get ittt pleasee go watch it
The stories is always being told through another character's lens so it adds sm depth, it leaves you asking what is real, how the character's emotions and trauma is affecting the story and how they are all unreliable narrators. You're just along for the ride as the story twists and unravels itself echoing the main theme of "memory is a monster" I LOVE IT, the pacing is perrfection
Lestat. That's all i wanna say.
Rating: 9.5/10 toxic vampire yaoi
I put this on randomly one day and was not disappointed, hell it rearranged my brain chemistry. What a painful and devastating depiction of queer romance
Came in completely blind, and was hooked but the concept of a painter painting a portrait of someone who didn't want to be painted. Pleasantly surprised to see it all wraps up as this beautiful story full of symbolism and parallels i couldn't catch in the first watch. And yes i will never not be completely wrecked by Every Eurydice and Orpheus reference
Honestly words can't describe how this movie made me feel
Rating: Ow my gay heart
The first season was such a service to the game, i remember getting prepared to be emotionally wrecked every episode and i did. What an amazing performance by both Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, they ARE Joel and Ellie (i will never understand people giving Bella hate).
The second season tho, what. happened. The costume design just broke the immersion for me because why are the zombies clean? hell why are all the characters spotless? The dialogue is just bad, pacing was off i honestly dropped the series 3 eps in, i might come back to finish it but tbh idk
Rating: Just watch the first season
First impression, WOW Dakota's acting is bad, every line that is delivered in her monotone voice comes off so emotionless it almost put me off watching this movie.
Otherwise if you can pull through the rest of this movie, you can find characters that have no depth, no chemistry and that whole SA side plot feels like it was put there just as a minor inconvenience, they didn't really address it in anyway? Honestly, what a mess, i will give credit to Chris Evans performance, somehow he made the dialogue feel natural and was the reason i kept watching.
Rating: Horrible lack of Pedro screen time
Worst acting performance i've seen this year, Sofia PLEASE make it less obvious that you're camera conscious af. The writing was god awful, dialogue was so corny it felt like watching a movie made 10 years ago, and those had charm. 20 mins in and i was already disappointed by one-dimensional characters and zero chemistry
Rating: Don't even bother
I decided to give this a watch after the disaster show that is "My Oxford year" and since people were comparing it to "Me before you", also because my sister's been urging me to watch this
I think this deserves it place as a romcom classic. It's corny but acceptable in its time. Main girl's character is too focused on how quirky she is it gets to a point lol.
Plotwise, im gonna be a debby downer and say i feel like all this pain and agony will is causing louisa completely avoidable. Like hey man if you know you're gonna kys maybe don't actively participate in a romance with this girl and then decide to leave her and have the audacity to ask her to watch??? Also doesn't this paint a really depressing image for disabled people? also his parents should've hired a therapist or something not some random unqualified girl to take care and be friends with their son?? anyway great watch lmao
Rating: Yeah sure okay
I remember this being my favorite Ghibli movie as a kid. Im only revisiting it now that it's going to come out in theatres again where i live (YAY im excited) with a fresh pov and pretty much a blank memory lmao
Always gotta appreciate the beautifully animated scenes in Ghibli films, now that more AI slop is coming on i really have a higher level of respect for any animated work. I love picking apart how they draw things, and how they make every movement so lifelike and believable
Plotwise, i used to think the pacing was a bit too slow but looking at it now i think it really suits te introspective nature of the movie. It's a perfect blend of realism and the usual fantasy aspects of Ghibli
All in all, it's a beautifully made piece of art. Considering getting "Le vent se lève. Il faut tenter de vivre" tattooed on my body forever
Rating: Life is worth living
Something i looked into on a whim after watching this youtube video about cat acting and i was pleasantly surprised!
What a refreshing take on animation, not that this is anything new i just didn't expect for this style of no dialogue animation to be so wildly sucessful (completely deserve btw)
Eventhough not one word was spoken the story manages to take you on a rollercoaster of emotions, the characters were lovable and though not anthropomorphized you can still have a sense of their personality through body language alone
I love love love the execution of world building, it truly made full use of animation as a medium where there are no limits to what you can do
Rating: I cried 5 times cause the cat was cute
I watched it with mah pookie the other night and we thoroughly enjoyed it (even tho he thought it was predictable)
I think i have to mention set design because it was just so good (eye candy fr)
I haven't seen the play oops diff culture moment so with the little knowledge of Oz lore that i have, mostly from Oz the great and powerful, i loved the characterization for this version of Glinda and Elphaba
All in all, its a pretty solid movie
Rating: Spectacularious
Season 4 NOT SPOILER FREE review because i watched the last three seasons so long ago i forgoe.. i still remember season 3 being ahh tho so i didn't have much expectations for this one but WE'RE SO BACK BABY
Forbidden love Cinderella-esque trope count me in because i am HOOKED. I feel like the pacing was done so much better this season, some parts i feel like these two are speedrunning through the courting process (cus Benedict is a man-whore) while still getting these tiny bits of Sophie's backstory and the slow build up to the point where Ben finally connects the dots in his head of who the silver ingenue really is.
I think their chemistry is so great, i don't think Ben's character is that interesting for me though, I'm more invested in Sophie and her side of the story. Rooting for my girl to get her revenge and hire her servant friends when she becomes a Lady
I still can't get over how there are no repercussions for Penelope for being Lady Whistledown, with the focus on servants in this season i thought it would be so fun if the gossip was from them but ofc the show needed a narrator we can't possibly drop Whistledown smh
Rating: Waiting for the second part but right now, second best season following season 2
Update: Still holds the rank for second best season buut it gets a lil messy at the end so we gotta knock it down a lil, i liked how they finally resolved Pen giving up Lady Whistledown (she still got away too easy tho) and now we're back!! on the who's Lady Whistledown hunt, i will agree the show won't feel the same without her narration. I hadn't been too interested in Fran's character until now but i really felt a connection to her this season so props. As for Ben and Sophie, their ending was satisfactory, i guess, it felt like the second half of this season was overloaded with too many story arcs it kind of throws of the pacing so their arc didn't hit as hard BUt everything wraps up nicely so (my standard might have lowered as netflix shows go on)
A visual masterpiece despite contrary reviews, every scene was like eye candy to me. I especially loved the color palette of black, red, and green. Black could be, like popular beliefs, tied to death as it is seen to be worn by Victor throughout the movie after his mother’s passing, signifying literal death and figuratively, death of innocence. The significance of his mother wearing red initially stood out to me as she represents life. Therefore, Victor, who carries both colors in his outfits, is the man who will bridge the gap between life and death. But as I’m met with Elizabeth and how she’s always adorned in vibrant greens and blues, reflecting the insects she loves, I realized green is usually tied to life, nature, and nurture. Red is the opposite of green. Red is the color of blood, red is evidence of life one finds when one is teetering on the brink of death. Victor’s understanding of life now feels hollow, devoid of warmth and nature, something reduced to physical proof rather than something living and growing. God i love how the colors themselves could tell a whole story.
Phenomenal writing as well, here are some quotes that i still think about:
“I am obscene to you but to myself, I simply am.”
“And if you have it in your heart, forgive yourself into existence...While you are alive, what recourse do you have but to live?"
Rating: I've never felt so maternal before til i met the Creature.
